Julie Kraska

Ot/L

Julie received her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from Eastern Kentucky University in 1980.  Since graduating, Julie has spent the past 40 years focusing her energy and commitment to the field by focusing her scope of practice to the area of pediatric occupational therapy.  Upon graduation, Julie began her career working with children and families in the home health setting.  Several years later, she elected to expand her experience and move to Jacksonville, Florida where she was hired by Nemours Children’s Hospital.   It was there that Julie had the opportunity to establish the hospital’s first occupational therapy department and provide services within the acute care, outpatient, and neonatal intensive care unit.  Julie continued to build on her experience by working 14 years at the Child Development Centers of the Bluegrass; an inclusionary preschool. It was there that Julie gained a deep appreciation for working alongside teachers, physical therapist, and speech/language pathologist as a member of a team.  In September 2003, Julie opened her own practice in Lexington specializing in pediatric occupational therapy.  Over the years, Julie has been a consultant for various federal grants, a member of transdisciplinary evaluation teams focusing on children with vision and hearing loss, a guest lecturer for numerous graduate programs at the University of Kentucky and the Human Development Institute at the University of Kentucky.  Julie assisted in the development of an on-line course in conjunction with the Human Development Institute at the University of Kentucky in the area of self-regulation issues in children.  She has presented over 50 workshops and trainings at both national and local levels. After all these years, you will still hear her say at the end of the day, that she has the best job in the world!  In her spare time, Julie enjoys time with friends and family, reading, cooking, and yes…….playing.
